Passion Fruit, Organic and Biodynamic
In season January, March and July
This delightful tropical fruit, about the size of a baseball, hides an aromatic, gooey goldenness inside. Dotted with edible black seeds, passion fruit are cherished for their sweet-tart flavor. Our fruit's deep purple skin is smooth when picked and gradually shrivels and wrinkles as it matures. Ripe passion fruit can be stored in the refrigerator for a week or so. Passion fruit is a nutritional powerhouse packed with dietary fiber and Vitamins A and C.
Eat fresh, add to juices and smoothies or use in sauces and desserts. Cut the fruit in half and scoop out the pulp and seeds to use. Refrigerate fruit in a plastic bag for up to a few days or freeze for longer storage without any loss of quality.
STORING FRUIT: We defer to the experts at the University of California Davis when we recommend storing all of our fruit at room temperature (around 70 degrees Fahrenheit) because refrigerator temperatures (usually 38-42 degrees) can damage them and/or prevent them from ripening to their best flavor and texture. Place produce in an open bowl or on a countertop out of direct sunlight to prevent produce from becoming too warm. Once cut or prepared, all fruits should be refrigerated promptly. Obviously, use all fruits and herbs within a few days since longer storage can result in loss of freshness and flavor.
